Brathwaite on front foot for Glam
WEST Indian batsman Kraigg Brathwaite will play in Glamorgan’s remaining three Specsavers County Championship matches of the season, after joining as an overseas player.
He will replace Shaun Marsh, who returns to Western Australia ahead of the upcoming Australian domestic season.
Brathwaite has scored 9,179 runs in first-class cricket at an average of almost 39, with 21 centuries and 48 half-centuries.
He made his Test debut as a 19-year-old against Pakistan, and has since played 57 Test matches, hitting eight centuries and 17 half-centuries with a high score of 212 against Bangladesh in 2014.
The opener scored 134 and 95 against England at Headingley in 2017 to help West Indies to a famous five-wicket victory, and also has Test centuries against New Zealand, England and Pakistan and South Africa.
He has had short spells with Yorkshire at Nottinghamshire, for whom he averaged 40 in the final four matches of 2018.
Glamorgan will also have to replace batsman Charlie Hemphrey, who has re-joined Queensland for one-day trials.
Marsh was only able to play in one Championship game and four T20 matches in the second season of his two-year Glamorgan contract, thanks to a combination of international duties and injury.

I really enjoy playing cricket in England and Wales I will be doing my best to add as many runs and wickets as possible to help the team’s cause,” said Brathwaite.

“We are up there in the race for the top three and we believe that Kraigg’s ability with the bat and his international experience will be of great benefit to the club, and to the players around him.
“He’s played some great knocks all over the world, and with previous experience in these conditions with the West Indies, Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire, we are confident he will hit the ground running.”
Brathwaite joins Glamorgan for their game against Worcestershire on Tuesday, September 10, straight from Test duty.
