PARENTS watched in fear as two cars tried to ram each other off the road while the drivers brandished machetes right outside a busy park.

Witnesses say they saw two cars ram into each other in Llanrumney Avenue, Llanrumney, Cardiff, outside the Eastern Leisure Centre, at around 4pm on Tuesday.

They claim that during the terrifying incident one of the drivers got out of his car brandishing a machete, which he used to smash the windscreen of the second car.

After the exchange, the two drivers were then seen speeding off separately towards Newport Road.

One of the vehicles, a white car, was driven off-road at speed across the busy playing-fields where girls and boys were playing football.

Residents described one of the vehicles as being flanked by two off-road bikes, which narrowly avoided oncoming cars.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said it was lucky nobody was hurt.

Others have called for a greater police presence in the area, saying they are fearful for children.

South Wales Police said it is investigating reports of a “disturbance” which lasted around 10 minutes.

A spokesman said: “South Wales Police is continuing to investigate a disturbance in Llanrumney at around 4.15pm on Tuesday.

“Witnesses have described two cars and two off-road bikes chasing each other on the road and on the playingfields where children were playing.

“Fortunately there are no reports of anyone being injured as a result of this concerning incident, which is thought to have lasted around 10 minutes.”

Anyone who might have information about the incident, including any dashcam or mobile phone footage, should contact 101.
