■■ The Cardiff Branch of Parkinson’s UK Support Group will meet on Tuesday, September 10, 11am-1pm, at Bethel UR Church Hall, Llangranog Road, Llanishen, Cardiff CF14 5BJ. Richard Wood will give a talk on “Women in World War One”. Warm welcome for new members. Local contact Jo Taylor 07946 977509.
■■High Tea Bingo has commenced after the August break and takes place every second Tuesday of the month and is open to everyone who wants a bit of fun and good company. Entry is £5 and includes tea/coffee and cakes. There are five games, with the chance to win £1 for a line and £5 for a house, in addition there is a raffle with prizes. It is held in St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Road, Whitchurch, Cardiff – 2pm for eyes down at 2.30pm.
■■The next social meeting of the Cardiff County Unison Retired Members Branch will be held at the City United Reform Church, Windsor Place, Cardiff, on Wednesday, September 11, from 10.15am to noon. The meeting will include a talk from Alison Firth of the University of the Third Age (U3A). New and current members are welcome.
■■Roath Local History Society announces the opening of its 42nd winter programme, a series of nine monthly lectures. The RLHS website has been revised and expanded and is a source of information on the society, including the current programme. It also contains a wide range of historical information and records. The society encourages and fosters research, which can be individual or group, into chosen topics and has an exstensive library and resources available for members. This will be followed by a presentation by the Research Forum, which will take as a theme The Origins and Meaning of Street Names in Roath. All meetings held in St Andrew’s United Reformed Church, Penylan Road, Cardiff, CF24 3PB. Assemble at 7.45pm with complimentary refreshments and the opportunity to socialise. The meeting is opened at 8pm.
