The next generation

An exhibition is taking place in Wales celebrating new artistic talent. We take a look at what you can expect

WALES already has so much creative talent and now the next generation of artists are being celebrated in a new exhibition.

The five young creatives in the spotlight are working across a range of disciplines, including photography, textile design, graphics and illustration.

Who’s Next? is a product of the recently announced corporate partnership between Glamorgan Brewing Co and the Wales Millennium Centre. The intention is that the show will become an annual event, spotlighting the next generation of Welsh creative talent at the country’s largest arts centre.

The brewery has commissioned bespoke work from each of those featured in the exhibition, which will be on show alongside a wider selection of pieces from each artist’s portfolio.

“Our brand and ethos are massively inspired by where we’re from, and we’re constantly looking for ways to celebrate Wales and Welsh people,” said Richard Anstee, Glamorgan Brewing’s managing director.

“Who’s Next? is a natural extension to that mission: by celebrating and supporting the next generation of talent in Wales we can shine a light on all the brilliant work being made on our doorstep, and find great creative collaborators in the process.”

Sarah Leigh, General Manager Arts and Creative at Wales Millennium Centre, said: “We are proud to be working with Glamorgan Brewing Co

to present this exciting exhibition.

“As the national performing arts centre for Wales, we are committed to showcasing and championing the work of Welsh talent – both on and off the stage – and I can’t wait to see the work of these brilliant young artists.” The featured artists are:

■ Brad Newman, 24, a landscape and travel photographer from Rhondda Cynon Taf;

■ Ffion Williams, 22, a textile designer working with heritage

Welsh wool mills;

■ Ellwyn Male, 33, a fine artist and sculptor from Aberdare;

■ Alex Banks, 27, a creative director and designer and director of We Should Create studio in Cardiff; and

■ Charley Wong, 22, a young illustrator studying illustration at the University of South Wales.

Who’s Next? Is at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff until Sunday, September 29.
