Barry look to fly high on their long trip to Airbus

-

BARRY Town United will be hoping to get back on the winning trail tomorrow when they head north to Airbus UK.

Last week’s 0-0 home draw with Caernarfon cost them top spot in the JD Cymru Premier after TNS’ midweek win over Newtown.

Manager Gavin Chesterfield will welcome back club captain Jordan Cotterill and Jonathan Hood after suspension, while he will have to decide who plays in goal.

Mike Lewis started his first league game this season in goal last Saturday and kept a clean sheet, while George Ratcliffe, who has started between the sticks since the season opener, kept a clean sheet for Wales U-21s in midweek when Paul Bodin’s team defeated Belgium 1-0.

The Wingmakers opened their win account last Saturday when they won 2-1 at Aberystwyth and that confidence booster could make it a difficult away trip for the visitors.

Rhys Griffiths’ Penybont were humbled at home 6-1 by Bala Town last weekend, any confidence gathered by ‘Bont’ after their gutsy performance at TNS the previous week blown away.

It’s five games in now for the newcomers and one point from 15. The step up in standard has been difficult so far, so anything they take from their travels to Caernarfon tomorrow could be seen as a bonus.

Cardiff Met are still holding a undefeated tag after coming back twice last weekend at Carmarthen Town where they drew 2-2 with the Old Gold.

It’s Monday night action for the students this week as they host champions TNS at Cyncoed (7.45pm).

In Cymru South, Cambrian and Clydach travel to Llanelli tonight to contest a first-against-second clash.

Dane Williams’ team kept up their 100 per cent record to make it five wins from five last weekend with a 4-2 away success at Cwmamman United, while Llanelli just got over the line with a late winner to defeat Caerau Ely.

Caerau are still looking for their first points of the season and host Taffs Well at Cwrt Y Ala tomorrow in a derby game they will expect to get something from to lift them off the bottom of the league.

Steve Williams’ ‘Wellmen’ suffered a 4-0 home drubbing last weekend against Briton Ferry and will want a better performance.

STM Sports are enjoying life in the Cymru South and made it four wins from five games last week with an excellent 4-0 victory at Swansea University. Callum Bateman, Israel Mata, Chris Worsley and Lamin Conteh were on target. Dale Gardiner’s forward line could be a big test for Goytre United at their Glanhafod Park home, but a point could be a good return for STM.

Only one goal separates Cwmbran Celtic in 14th spot and Pontypridd Town in 13th, so a tight game is forecast at Cwmbran.

Llantwit Major have lost their last two league encounters and will hope for at least a point tomorrow when they host Swansea University at their Windmill Lane ground.

Bridgend Street are top of the Nathaniel Cars Welsh League Division One and they travel to Monmouth Town tomorrow hoping to keep top spot.

Pontyclun travel to Chepstow Town tomorrow in a confident mood after defeating Trethomas Bluebirds last weekend in a 3-2 thriller. A win could put Ponty top of the league on Saturday evening.
