DRIVE FOR CHEAPER CAR INSURANCE

DRIVERS could risk paying more than they need to for car insurance due to ‘quirks’ in how insurers and comparison websites collect data, according to Which?

The consumer group found that difference­s between questions asked by car insurance comparison websites and individual insurers can substantia­lly inflate premiums as assumption­s may be made about a driver’s circumstan­ces.

Malcolm Tarling, Associatio­n of British Insurers (ABI) spokesman, said: “If in any doubt, double check with the comparison site or insurer concerned.”

BUYING UNDER COVER OF THE NIGHT

NIGHT-TIME online shopping has increased by nearly a quarter in the past year, according to John Lewis Finance.

Data from the John Lewis Partnershi­p Card – a rewards credit card – showed a 23% increase in the amount spent between midnight and 6am in 2018 compared with 2017.

Women are particular­ly in the habit of shopping from under the comfort of their duvet, accounting for 66% of nighttime purchases. But men spend slightly more – at £37 typically compared with £34 for women

THE number of gifts being left to charities in wills has jumped by 53% year-on-year, according to business data from legal services provider Co-op.

The increase was found by comparing charitable giving via wills during the period July 2018-June 2019 with the 12 months beforehand.

The most common charities Co-op’s clients are choosing to leave gifts to are cancer charities, followed by animal charities and internatio­nal charities.
