PREMIER League leaders Liverpool maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a 2-1 win at Chelsea.

Trent Alexander-Arnold fired home following a free-kick to put Jurgen Klopp’s side on course for a sixth successive top-flight win this term.

They went further ahead before the break when Roberto Firmino headed in. N’Golo Kante halved the deficit with 19 minutes to play, but the Merseysiders held on to restore their five-point cushion on second-placed Manchester City.

City produced a stunning response to the shock loss at Norwich City as they thrashed Watford 8-0.

Bernardo Silva claimed his first topflight hat-trick as Pep Guardiola’s side ran riot. Sergio Aguero also got on the scoresheet along with David Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Nicolas Otamendi and Kevin De Bruyne.

Manchester United lost Marcus Rashford to injury as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at West Ham. The striker limped off early in the second half after Andriy Yarmolenko had given the hosts the lead, before Aaron Cresswell finished United off with a stunning free-kick.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was Arsenal’s saviour as his late free-kick earned the 10-man Gunners a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa.

John McGinn had given Villa a surprise lead but, despite Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ dismissal late in the first half, club-record signing Nicolas Pepe equalised from the penalty spot.

Villa regained the lead 89 seconds later, Wesley turning home, only for Callum Chambers to strike back.

Aubameyang’s winner took Unai Emery’s side into the top four.

James Maddison’s late goal earned Leicester a 2-1 win over Spurs at the King Power Stadium.

Diogo Jota’s late goal earned Wolves a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.

Palace looked set for another home win after taking the lead through Leander Dendoncker’s own-goal in the 46th minute, but a mistake at the back saw the visitors level with virtually the last kick of the game.

Sheffield United gained a 2-0 win at Everton, while Norwich were unable to repeat their heroics of the previous week, going down 2-0 at Burnley.
