Depot deliver major surprise for Galaxy

NEWLY-PROMOTED Cardiff Depot created a major upset in the Carling Premier Division, with a 5-3 win over reigning champions Space Jam Galaxy.

The Galaxy have comfortabl­y won the Carling Premier Division for the past two seasons, being undefeated in the process, so Cardiff Depot’s win is a fine achievemen­t.

Depot’s goals came from Josh Spencer, Nathan Mathias, Alex Cooke, Jerome Actie and Nicholas Saunders, with Christophe­r Quick, Josh Graham (penalty) and Jonny Hicks replying.

As a result of Space Jam’s shock defeat, Michaelsto­ne Rangers are the new leaders of the division, following their fourth consecutiv­e win of the season in a 5-0 victory over Radyr. Joshua Payne netted a brace, which was added to by Adam Jones, Samuel Handley and Ben Cody.

Goals from Jack Gibbs and Jonathan McCarthy secured a 2-1 win for CSKA Sophia Gardens over Grange Celts. Tyrone Vela netted the Celts’ goal.

Elsewhere, Plough Albion and the Greek Cypriot Associatio­n of Wales shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw. Plough netted through Marc Curtis, Benjamin Carey and Gareth Taylon, while GCAW replied with goals from Dean Powell, Alex North and Jacob Griffiths.

Trelai are the new leaders of Division One following their 6-3 win over Splott Athletic.

Meanwhile, Higgs Locksmiths moved up into second place after a 4-3 win over previous leaders Thornhill Thunder. Tyrone Phillips was the hero for the Locksmiths with a hat-trick, which was added to by Macauley Morgan. Thornhill’s goals were shared between Jon Harding, Lee Burgess and David Huckle.

Real Caerdydd moved up into fourth place after a 3-1 win over Dynamo Caerdydd. Andrew Paddock netted a brace for Real, while Nathan Lewis added a third.

Elsewhere, it was honours even as Cardiff Cossacks and John Davey Builders drew 4-4. The Cossacks’ strikes came from Kristian Bekker, Justin Pell (2) and Leon Smith.

Cardiff County continued their goal onslaught, as they swept to a 7-3 win over Golden Lion. Alex Burkhard led the way with a hat-trick, with Lewis Dite and Kieron Mallett weighing in with two goals apiece. Elite Eleven continued their 100 per cent record, with a 6-4 win over BG Dads. Chiernoh Jalloh and Lamin Conteh hit two goals apiece, while the other goals came from Kofi Rowe and an own goal.

Cardiff Dragons are hot on their heels with just one goal separating them on maximum points after their resounding 11-1 win over Cardiff Sunday. Scott Richards was the hero as he hit an amazing seven goals. Further strikes came from Scott Birrell, Camile WaltersWri­ght, Jay Edwards and Kearan Ferrao.

Cogan recorded their second win of the season, with a 2-1 victory over Cyncoed Sunday to remain in fourth. Stavros Katsikeas and Thomas Geen netted for Cogan.

Rumney Rams are fifth after a 5-4 win over Leckwith. Jordan Smith netted a brace for Leckwith and despite further goals from David Brown and Euan Marshall, the Rams secured all three points.

Elsewhere, Cyncoed Llamas recorded their first win in the league with a 4-3 victory over fellow newcomers Mersin Dragons. Ahmed Eiseaidy, Richard Cross and Reece Walters netted the Dragons’ goals.
