‘We cannot wait to spend every minute together’
Name: Shannon Murphy.
Date and place of birth: Shannon was born at 7.55pm on July 29 at the University Hospital of Wales. Weight: 8lb 1oz.
Parents: Mum, Nicola Murphy, 29, is a hairdresser, and dad, Daniel Murphy, 31, is a postman. The family live in Barry.
Mum’s story: Nicola said: “We were so happy and surprised to find out that we were having a baby as it was something that we never discussed.
“I was all of a sudden ill, or at least I thought I was.
“With the morning sickness, I thought that I had a bad bout of the flu and after a week or so of it, my friend Jane commented that it might be morning sickness, and it just fitted.
“So the next day, I went a got a test, which came out positive.
“Once we knew that I was pregnant, it was full steam ahead, for example we had a scan and then found out that we were expecting a little girl.
“Up until the birth we had to get everything ready for her arrival.
“From getting the nursery ready to buying pushchairs etc, we threw everything into it. When my waters did break, we ended up rushing to the hospital and from us getting to the hospital to the birth was four hours and 15 minutes.
“The smile on Daniel’s face when he first saw Shannon was wonderful and something I doubt I will ever forget.
“Two days later we were taking our little bundle of joy home for the first time and that feeling was out of the world.
“Now the hard work begins but we cannot wait to spend every waking moment with her.”
