INSALL BRACE AS NOMADS CLIMB

-

CONNAH’S Quay Nomads climbed back up into joint second in the JD Cymru Premier table with an impressive 3-1 victory over Penybont on Deeside yesterday.

Jamie Insall scored twice and also had a hand in the other goal as the Nomads stretched their unbeaten run to 11 matches in league and cup so far this term.

Insall broke the deadlock after 11 minutes and then it was he who was fouled in the box a minute after halftime, with Callum Morris stepping up to convert the resultant spot-kick to double the lead.

Insall then all but made the game safe on 64 minutes, slotting home his second past Rhys Wilson following a good team move.

The visitors pulled one back when a free-kick went in off Nomads keeper Lewis Brass.

Andy Morrison’s side are now level on 16 points with champions The New Saints and four back on leaders Barry Town United, who once again demonstrated their own title credentials with a 1-0 win over TNS in their own backyard.

Evan Press’s stunning strike on 24 minutes – his first for the club – proved to be a match-winning one at Park Hall.

And it is an early warning that unbeaten Barry, along with the Nomads, pose a real threat to TNS’s hopes of a ninth straight title.

The goal came after good work in the build-up from Chris Hugh, with Press sending an effort from the edge of the box into the top corner.

Barry were also indebted to on-loan Cardiff City keeper George Ratcliffe, who pulled off a string of superb saves to deny TNS.

Elsewhere, there was a bizarre turn of events at Cyncoed where the match between Cardiff Met and Cefn Druids was postponed due to a kit clash.

It has been rearranged for Saturday, November 23.

Bottom side Carmarthen Town remain the only side yet to register a win so far after they lost 1-0 at Airbus UK Broughton.

Andy Owens grabbed the allimportant goal in the first half for the Wingmakers.

Caernarfon Town extended their unbeaten league run to seven matches, with Jamie Breese’s second-half goal earning them a 1-0 home win over Newtown in front of the live S4C cameras.

And the league’s top scorer, Chris Venables, took his tally for the campaign so far to eight as he fired in a goal in each half to steer Bala Town to a 2-0 victory over Aberystwyth Town at Maes Tegid.
