-

TWO accidents in Cardiff caused rushhour delays in the city.

A horse died after coming into collision with a car on Wentloog Avenue in Rumney just after 6am yesterday.

An hour later, a car and a motorbike were involved in a crash on nearby Rover Way.

A male motorcyclist was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

There were no details available on the motorcyclist’s injuries and condition before the Echo went to press last night.

South Wales Police confirmed that Wentloog Avenue was re-opened to traffic just before 9am after the horse accident.

It happened near Wentloog Industrial Estate.

The driver of the car was not seriously injured. The horse died.

South Wales Police later tweeted a statement: “We thank members of the public for their understanding during the closure.”

Rover Way was partially blocked in both directions after the car and motorcycle crash near Seawall Road.

Congestion was heavy during the morning rush hour, with queues back to the Llanedeyrn interchange.

Traffic was also heavier than normal on the A49 Eastern Avenue.

The Welsh Ambulance Trust confirmed that one person was taken to hospital.

Their statement said: “We were called today at approximately 6.58am to reports of a road traffic accident involving a motorcycle and another vehicle on Rover Way in Cardiff.

“We responded with one emergency ambulance. One patient was transported to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.”
