AN AWARD-WINNING crime web series made in Wales is offering opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to get involved in the industry.

Duty’s Veil is a crime drama that was filmed in Cardiff in association with Bridgend-based film company Cinemerse.

The executive producer and lead actress, Amanda Jiang, said they chose Cardiff as the base to film as the city has so much talent she wants to exhibit.

The series is about a woman called Rebecca, a detective who came to Cardiff from America and is presented with a case about a vicious killer.

The more Rebecca delves into the case, the more she discovers about her own dark past, the reason she left America, her true identity and her affiliation with a notorious crime sisterhood.

Amanda, who is originally from LA, came to Wales in 2015 to study a media and communications degree at Cardiff University.

The 24-year-old said she decided to approach Cinemerse to work on the web series with her in the hope of furthering her acting career.

With two episodes under its belt, Duty’s Veil will be shown at Earl’s Court Film Festival in London this month, before being pitched to platforms in the hope of it being commissioned for TV.

Amanda hopes to continue making the series in Cardiff, working with students from Bridgend College and Cardiff’s universities to offer them experience in the industry.

She added: “We also want to encourage disabled students to get into the industry by offering them work experience, as we want to provide equal opportunities for crew members of all abilities.”

The pilot episode has won seven awards so far, including both international and IMDB qualifying festivals.
