A STRETCH of one of Cardiff’s busiest roads will shut next weekend – to film a stunt for a new Hollywood movie.

Film star Mark Wahlberg will be in Cardiff next week filming a stunt scene for his new film, Infinite.

Infinite is set to be released next year.

Paramount Pictures will be filming the stunt at the Mercure Hotel, in Newport Road, and the road will close for two days.

The Echo understands the film crews will shoot a number of scenes inside the hotel and in the street.

Newport Road will be closed from the junction of Fitzalan Place to the junction of City Road for two days.

The crew have also been filming in other parts of the UK at undisclosed locations.

The film is an adaptation of the 2009 novel The Reincarnationist Papers, based on a group of men and women who are reincarnated over centuries.

Wahlberg plays Evan Michaels, who discovers his hallucinations are actually visions from his past lives and they will help him defeat the film’s villain.

He won’t be the only star in the film. According to popular film website IMDB the movie also stars Dylan O’Brien, who appeared in Maze Runner, and Rupert Friend, who had the leading role in Hitman.

The busy road will be shut from midnight next Saturday, throughout Sunday, October 27, and Monday, October 28, until 6am on Tuesday, October 29.

The closure will take place during the October half-term, when the council says traffic in the area is considerably reduced.

A spokesman for Cardiff council said: “Cardiff is one of the UK’s fastest-growing creative sectors outside London.

“Currently we have over 3,000 creative businesses in the city and over 15,000 people are employed in this sector.

“The fact that Cardiff has been chosen as one of the filming locations in the UK for this film is great news for the city.

“Cardiff is now firmly established as a leading centre for screen production, we are sending a clear message to the industry that Cardiff is very much open for business in this sector.”

Cardiff council says the filming site in Newport Road will be secured with security, and traffic management will be put in place to re-route traffic, pedestrians and cyclists.

It also says the production team has engaged with local residents and businesses who will be affected by the road closure.
