Smiling Isaac, he’s our little boss baby

-

Name: Isaac John Thomas.

Date and place of birth: 7.04am on March 25 at the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil.

Weight: 8lb 14oz.

Parents: Mum, Joanna Walters, 29, a care assistant and dad, Ian Thomas, 33.

The family live in Treherbert, Rhondda. Mum’s story: Joanna said: “I thought I didn’t really have any cravings until I realised I did eat sausage sandwiches for like four weeks.

“I have longed for a child for so long, for me it was the fear of the unknown and just hoping that everything would be OK for the baby more than myself. As long as he was OK I was, no matter what I went through.

“I originally wanted a surprise but as life goes it didn’t go to plan and took us eight long years for our miracle to happen (through IVF). We had a gender reveal at 20 weeks, a gathering of family and closest friends.

“We had our list of names for that long and we just loved the name Isaac and now we look at him every day and still cannot believe he’s actually here.

“His middle name is after my father ‘John Walters’ who likes to go by Papa John.

“I was told he was a big baby growing two months in advance from the start really.

“I was then induced a week early and was in hospital for 5+ days which in my opinion now seems so unnatural considering when he was born he didn’t seem that big at all considering he was 8lb 14oz, it felt like I was in labour for over a week.

“I was then taken to the labour ward where I was there in actual labour for 12+ hours before I had to have an emergency caesarean section as he was stuck and got to the danger stage.

“The staff and nurses/doctors were amazing and I couldn’t have asked for better care but considering the circumstances the birth for me wasn’t as I would have exactly wanted it, especially because I had to then wait to have the amazing experience of the ‘skin to skin contact’ with my baby boy but nothing goes the way we want. I was just so glad he was here and healthy and I’d still do it all again.

“When we brought him home for the first time it just felt like a dream. I actually think I pinched myself to make sure I was awake and it was happening.

“Watching my partner carry him out in front on me in the hospital knowing we were finally a family I was on cloud nine.

“Isaac is such a happy baby, always smiling and we have so many lovely comments off people. We wonder how his little chubby cheeks don’t hurt!

“It has changed so much, but for the better. Everything we do, we do for him; he’s our little boss baby and we wouldn’t have it any other way.”
