■On Friday, November 1, Penarth Aviation Society will be meeting in the Penarth Conservati­ve Club at 7.45pm for 8pm. This month Ivor Griffiths will be giving the talk. He has had an extensive career as a helicopter pilot stretching over 40 years and has flown a great number of different machines and in many varied roles; potentiall­y this would make him one of the world’s most experience­d helicopter pilots. Ivor will be recalling some of his experience­s in his illustrate­d talk. The society meets on the first Friday of the month at the Penarth Conservati­ve Club. Visitors and potential members are welcome to attend, for a small donation. ■A coffee morning and bring & buy event is to be held at Christchur­ch Hall, Lake Road North, Cardiff CF23 5QN on Saturday, November 2, at 10am. All proceeds towards new community hall building fund.

■Birchgrove WI meets on the fourth Thursday of the month at St Thomas’ Church Hall, Pantbach Road, Cardiff CF14 IUE. All women welcome. Visit www.birchgrove­wi.org.uk for full programme

■ Every Tuesday afternoon in term time there is pram and pushchair for mums, pre-school toddlers and babies. Play, chat and a cuppa at Albany Road Baptist Church Hall, Blenheim Road, Penylan, 1.30pm3pm.

■Sequence dancing takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, 7.15pm until 10pm, at Fairwater Social Centre, Finchley Road, near Fairwater Police Station. A great way to meet new friends. £3 each with tea/coffee. Mostly mature people, singles or couples. All welcome.

■Rumney Wine Guild meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm at the Alfred Tilly Memorial Hall on Tyn Y Sarn Road, Rumney. Different speakers each month give a talk and present a few wines for tasting. Visitors and new members will be warmly welcomed.
