TWO LEFT IN THE RACE TO SUCCEED WARNOCK AT CARDIFF

-

CARDIFF City have narrowed down the candidates for Neil Warnock’s successor to Neil Harris and Lee Bowyer, writes Glen Williams.

We understand that the club have whittled down a list of candidates to just two names and are hoping to appoint Warnock’s replacement within the next few days.

Warnock left the club following the 1-0 Severnside derby defeat on Sunday and has wished the next manager every success in the job.

While a number of popular candidates have been touted since

Warnock’s departure, Chris Hughton and Craig Bellamy among them, it appears Harris and Bowyer are the only two people in serious contention for the job.

Harris earned plaudits for his work as Millwall manager, lifting the Lions to the Championship from League One during his time there. He also steered Millwall to the FA Cup quarterfinals in 2016/17. The 42-year-old has been out of a job since leaving The Den last month.

Bowyer, meanwhile, has seen his reputation shoot through the roof at Charlton in recent seasons and as such he is another leading contender to take the job.

Bowyer, also 42, led Charlton into the Championship last season and is thought to be one of the brightest British managers in the game.

Bluebirds chairman Mehmet Dalman has also revealed that owner Vincent Tan will have a more hands-on approach in this appointment, with the club seeking a younger, more offensive style of manager.

“We want a manager that can have 35 shots in every game,” Dalman told BBC Radio Wales.

“The process is ongoing on at the moment, we’re down to a very small number of names”
