Earnie plays down imminent coaching return with Cardiff

WARNOCK’S REIGN AT CITY IN PICTURES: PAGES 28&29

It means Cardiff will have to invest heavily in the next few transfer windows to ensure the right personnel are in place to carry out this vastly different playing style.

Dalman also has close ties with Charlton, having this summer flirted with the idea of tabling a takeover bid. That ultimately came to an end, but it is likely he will have good connections at the club. Managerial record

What he’s said

Bowyer was caught in a contract dispute in the summer after earning the Addicks promotion, however he finally decided to put pen to paper and here is what he said after that.

“We went on a real journey last season,” he said.

“The club came together - the players, the staff, the fans and we achieved something special. The journey hasn’t finished yet and I’m delighted this has all been agreed.

“This has been a long process and I never wanted to leave, I love this club.

“We have a fantastic fan base here and my focus continues to be getting our squad in the best possible shape for the Championship next season.”

FORMER Cardiff City striker Robert Earnshaw has played down an imminent coaching return to the Bluebirds, and says he’s returned to South Wales to consider his options ahead of making his next move.

Earnshaw recently left his role as assistant coach at Fresno FC, and posted a picture of the entrance to the Severn Bridge on his social media channels on Monday afternoon, just before confirmation of Neil Warnock’s departure

It was a move that sent the rumour mill into overdrive, although the player himself has a simple explanation for being back.

He said: “Last season I finished where I’ve been coaching over the last year in America. I’d left the club over there and that’s why I’ve come back.

“I’ve been away for a little bit, but now the season’s over I’m back.

“My contract’s up over there and I’m moving on from my role over there.

“So, I’m back for both personal and professional reasons.”

The Echo understands Earnshaw isn’t in the running to take on the top role at the Cardiff City Stadium.

However, given his status as a Bluebirds icon, there are plenty of City fans holding out for what would be a glorious return to the capital, with some suggesting he could be part of new-look backroom team, although the man himself is keeping his cards close to his chest.

“I don’t want to comment on it [a return to Cardiff City],” he added. “I’ve just got back and I don’t think there’s anything to comment on.

“Right now I’m just looking at my options. That’s where I’m at. I’ve just left my post over there [in America] and right now I’m just having a think and looking at my options.

“Where that is and what’s happening next, hopefully things will move over the next few weeks.

“There’s been a few offers and I’m just looking at my options and seeing what will be the best direction to take. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t think it’s right without speaking to people, but I’ve had some approaches from all over the world. That’s where I am.”
