A WELL-KNOWN bodybuilder was found dead in Cardiff after neighbours “heard noises coming from his flat”.

Sebastian Marcin Kakol was found dead at home in the city on November 5.

Yesterday an inquest was opened into his death, and the hearing was told he was found dead after neighbours called emergency services.

Mr Kakol, 39, originally from Poland, had won a national bodybuilding competition just days earlier.

He had previously worked as a doorman at popular Cardiff bar Live Lounge.

Addressing the inquest, coroner’s officer Emma Mathias explained neighbours were concerned about “noises coming from his flat” on Woodville Road.

“They heard screaming around the flat below and contacted emergency services to attend,” she told Assistant Coroner Thomas Atherton. “He was found on his back in the bedroom.”

The inquest was told his brother identified the body and a post-mortem is pending further invesigation.

Earlier this month, Mr Kakol’s brother Michal Kakol paid tribute.

The tribute read: “Beloved son, brother and uncle. A person of big heart who will be missed and never forgotten by his family and friends.

“On behalf of our family we would like to thank you for your kind words and support in this difficult time. This is a sudden loss to our family and our hearts are bleeding.

“Sebastian lived in Cardiff for the last 12 years where he found this city to be his second home. Here he developed his passion of bodybuilding and achieved his first successes.

“However, Sebastian’s heart belongs to the Polish land and this is where we hope he will find eternal peace.

“We are taking Sebastian to Poland, his home, where he will be buried in his family’s grave. This sudden loss of Sebastian is painful to our family.”

David Nelson, owner of the Peak Physique gym, where Mr Kakol trained, said: “He was well-known in the gym, he was a real character.

“He loved competing and he always had time to give. He was happy-golucky, a nice guy. Everyone is just shocked. He was in a bodybuilding show on the weekend and he won.

“He was out with friends on the Monday and he was fine. It’s a big shock.”

The inquest has now been adjourned until April 27, 2020, when a full hearing will take place.
