Heartless pair still stealing limelight from real victims
WITH more dates than a Barnum & Bailey tour, Amanda Knox took her circus on the road again at the weekend.
The American, who was found guilty and then cleared of British student Meredith Kercher’s death in Italy, appeared at a true crime festival tackily called Death Becomes Us.
While at the Washington DC event she took to the stage with a new found friend – none other than Lorena Bobbitt.
The 49-year-old gained worldwide infamy in 1993 after cutting off her husband, John Wayne’s penis while he slept, claiming he had raped her.
Bobbitt was later acquitted at her trial for malicious wounding by reason of temporary insanity and was instead sent to a mental hospital where she was discharged after a month.
At the weekend, after paying
£20 to see the new double act, supporters were treated to the two women appearing on stage to discuss “reclaiming our narratives together”.
Later they posed like BFFs on social media, where Knox gushed about Bobbitt who she had automatically enrolled in her “exonerees” club with which she now tours the world.
“It’s an honour to have shared this stage with another longtime member of the shamed women club, to be reclaiming our narratives together, to be reminded that we’ve gone from this... to this,” Knox tweeted afterwards.
Ever since returning to the States following her release in 2014, the American has worn the halo of victimhood while reportedly making millions in the process.
But it should not be forgotten that in her long journey toward exculpation, she wrongly blamed an innocent black man for the 2007 murder as well as telling lie upon lie in the process.
It was disturbing at the time and contributed to her not once, but twice, being found guilty of her 21-year-old flatmate’s death.
But what is increasingly disturbing are the actions of Knox following her acquittal. It includes her never-ending ‘all-about-me’ tour, cashing in on a tell-all book as well as appearing in a Netflix documentary.
But her latest appearance alongside
Bobbitt is genuinely shocking.
To identify with a woman who could – some say should – have faced an attempted murder charge after dismembering her husband in such a way is at best questionable. Bobbitt is hardly a sympathetic figure.
The two women have made a living out of their status as suspects while using it to gain attention at every turn.
They may be innocent of their crimes, but both are guilty of narcissism. Knox more so.
Her lack of concern or sympathy for Meredith Kercher and her family after their daughter’s murder, her being seen laughing, being silly, and making out with her boyfriend in public in the wake of her death, did her no credit at all.
Now, every time we think she is gone from public view, she does something to get back in the limelight, rarely, if ever, mentioning Meredith, who was brutally murdered.
Nothing Knox claims she went through compares to that.
My sympathies lie with Meredith’s family who, yet again, have to see this woman making herself the victim while also lining her pockets.
How devastating it must be for Meredith’s parents, learning that Knox now appears at festivals with people paying money to listen to her speak about her and Bobbitt being the victims.
The real victims in both their cases were those at the sharp end of the knife.
