FAMILY TREE #1

THIS new series has been a long time in the making, having been announced by its creators a few years ago.

It’s the tale of an eight-year-old girl who literally begins to transform into a tree.

Her devastated family sets off on a heart-wrenching journey across the back roads of America in a desperate search for a way to cure her horrifying transformation before it’s too late. With stunning artwork from Phil Hester and a haunting story from author Jeff Lemire, Family Tree #1 is out now, priced £3.60.

PUNISHER: SOVIET #1

IT’S been a year of highs and lows for Punisher fans. The second season of Netflix’s superb Punisher series aired on the streaming service in January and was promptly cancelled in February.

But the year will be ending on a lighter note, with the release of a new comic series.

Russian mobsters are turning up dead in New York and, for once, Frank Castle has had nothing to do with it.

But, just because he didn’t pull the trigger, this doesn’t mean it’s not about to become his problem.

Marking the return of author Garth Ennis (writer of The Boys) to the series, Punisher: Soviet #1 is out now, priced £3.60.

ABSOLUTE SWAMP THING: VOLUME ONE

IF it’s been a turbulent year for The Punisher, spare a thought for Swamp Thing fans.

The muchheralded horror web series was cancelled after just three episodes.

But you can seek consolation in this gorgeous, hard-back anthology which includes all of Alan Moore’s legendary run of Swamp Thing tales.

This is the first of three planned volumes and features Loose Ends, the prelude to Moore’s haunting Swamp Thing origin story.

It’s a tad pricey, weighing in at £80, but bargain hunters can grab it for £55 from the lovely people at Forbidden Planet.
