Young man critical after vicious attack at city house
A MAN has been left fighting for his life after a vicious attack at a house in Newport.
The 22-year-old man sustained serious head injuries during an assault at a house in Tewkesbury Walk, in Shaftesbury.
When ambulance crews arrived at the scene just before midnight on Thursday, the man was unresponsive.
He was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital, in Newport, where he remains in a critical condition.
Gwent Police is appealing for anyone who might have information about the incident.
Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who might have noticed anything suspicious in or around Tewkesbury Walk, Evans Street, Shaftesbury Street and Glastonbury Close between 6.30pm on Thursday, November 14, and 12.30am yesterday.
Any motorists travelling in the area around that time have been asked to check any dashcam footage for suspicious activity or vehicles that may assist officers. Detective Chief Inspector Nick Wilkie said: “I would like to reassure residents in the Shaftesbury area that we are making every effort to establish the circumstances that took place last night and officers are currently in the area carrying out further inquiries.
“If residents have any questions or concerns, please do speak to them.”
