BEST OF THE REST
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF CORONAVIRUS Channel 4, 9pm
SHOT in locations across the UK last Friday, this day-in-the-life documentary captures our new lockdown life over a 24-hour period.
Since the national emergency took hold, with the entire world in the grip of a deadly pandemic, life has changed beyond recognition.
Cameras will delve into every aspect of our new way of being.
From life in lockdown and homeschooling, to how people are being cared for who are ill or long-term self-isolating, this programme captures the lives of people both at home and at work. It also looks at what daily life is like for those who must venture outside, from police, nurses and doctors, to refuse collectors and supermarket shelf stackers.
But it won’t all be bleak. The documentary will investigate what creativity and acts of kindness are going on. A mixture of the funny, the inspirational, the poignant and the heartbreaking, it’s an insight into the impact of COVID-19 on people across the country.
JAMES MARTIN’S ISLANDS TO HIGHLANDS
ITV, 2pm
IF YOU ever wanted to know how to cook a pollock while balancing on rocks by the water’s edge, or if you just want to enjoy a view of the outside world, this new daily food tour might whet your appetite.
The amiable James Martin continues his role as daytime cook, with this food-orientated jaunt around the British isles.
“It’s my most ambitious British adventure yet,” he declares. “I’ll be meeting some of the finest chefs in the world, cooking my way from the far south to the northernmost reaches of the land.” You get the gist.
There’s plenty of sunshine and coastal air for James and his crew as they take in the islands and the highlands, picking up the best produce.
From cheesy Welsh rarebit in Wales to lobster and steak with haggis butter in Skye and caramelised rice pud in Guernsey, it’s a culinary delight. If only we hadn’t just stockpiled baked beans…
