A PUPIL at a Cardiff school hub has tested positive for coronavirus, the council has said.

The pupil at Llanishen Fach hub in Rhiwbina developed symptoms last week and was self-isolating.

Cardiff council did not state that any other pupils or staff members had developed symptoms.

The pupil was self-isolating at home before having a test for the virus on Monday, which was confirmed as positive on Tuesday.

A council spokeswoman said: “Due to the projected increase in the rate of community transmission of the virus, a number of measures are in place to reduce the risk to pupils, staff and families who attend all our Hubs.

“These measures include robust cleaning regimes carried out throughout the school day with a focus on ensuring that frequently touched surfaces are cleaned regularly.

“Implementation of social distancing guidelines and high standards of personal hygiene are followed, including regular handwashing and use of hand sanitiser.

“The council would like to reassure everyone, at this challenging time, that we are taking all measures necessary to ensure that the risk from transmission within school hubs is reduced to as low a level as possible.”

The council said if a family member living at the same household as a pupil displays symptoms or tests positive for Covid-19, then the pupil is to immediately self-isolate for 14 days, prior to reattending the hub.

They added if the pupil themselves display symptoms of the virus during the 14-day isolation period, a further seven days of isolation should be undertaken from onset of the symptoms.

Any pupil with symptoms or who tests positive is required to immediately self-isolate for at least seven days or for as long as symptoms persist, before going back to the hub.
