1 CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA Tonight, BBC2, 11pm
KRISTEN STEWART won a Cesar, the French equivalent of the Oscar, for her supporting performance in this drama. Actress Maria Enders (Juliette Binoche) is at an awards ceremony with her personal assistant Valentine (Stewart). A director (Lars Eidinger), asks Maria to appear in a revival of the play that made her name 20 years ago. He casts her as the older woman and starlet Jo-Ann Ellis (Chloe Grace Moretz) to fill the role of the manipulative ingenue Maria once portrayed. As opening night approaches, the veteran actress struggles to escape spectres of the past.
2 A FISH CALLED WANDA Tomorrow, BBC1, 10.30pm
STUFFY British barrister Archie has his world thrown into chaos when he meets Wanda, an American thief who wants to know where his client George has hidden a stash of diamonds. Archie gets entangled with her thuggish lover Otto. It’s one of the finest Britflicks ever made thanks to its stars John Cleese, Michael Palin Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Kline, pictured.
3 INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL Monday, BBC1, 6.40pm
PERFECT Bank Holiday viewing, this action adventure sees Harrison Ford back as the whip-cracking archaeologist on a quest to locate the legendary Crystal Skull of Akator, Also seeking the artefact is villainous Soviet agent Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett, left with Ford). An absolute joy of a movie.
4 TRAINSPOTTING Tuesday, Film 4, 10.55pm
BELIEVE the hype, this is one of, if not THE best British movie of the 1990s. Ewan McGregor, centre left, stars as one of a group of Edinburgh-based heroin addicts who, in a series of both funny and horrific vignettes, says more about life, love, choices and friendship than a mountain of Hollywood fodder. Packed with brilliant performances, the script is bristling with honesty and insight.
5 BRASSED OFF Wednesday, Film 4, 9pm
PETE POSTLETHWAITE, pictured, gives one of his most powerful performances as Danny, the ailing leader of a South Yorkshire colliery brass band who is determined to see his members compete in a prestigious competition. Although it has plenty of funny moments, there’s also real anger and drama here not to mention as some stirring music.
6 PRETTY WOMAN Thursday, Channel 5, 11.05pm
JULIA ROBERTS, pictured, gives a star-making performance as prostitute Vivian, who is plucked off the streets of LA by handsome but commitment-shy businessman Edward Lewis (Richard Gere). After agreeing to become his paid companion for the week, her relationship with Edward threatens to become more than just business.
7 FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL Friday, Film 4, 9pm
CHARLES (Hugh Grant) seems destined always to be the best man at weddings and never the groom. However, he finds the stirrings of true romance after a one-night stand with beautiful American Carrie (Andie MacDowell, left with Grant). This hilarious romantic comedy makes full use of Grant’s natural charm and boasts a superb cast giving their best.
