Young woman had ‘kind and caring heart’

-

A YOUNG woman with a “kind and caring heart” and who was flooded out of her home earlier this year has died with coronavirus.

Becca Evans, 28, from Gelli, near Treorchy, died on April 9 at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant after being admitted to hospital for an infection a month earlier.

Becca’s family believe she contracted the virus while in hospital.

Speaking on behalf of Becca’s family, friend Jacqui Onions said: “Becca’s kind and caring heart was unique. She’d do anything for anyone, was always willing to help and was loved by everyone whose lives she touched. She contributed so much to the community.”

Becca was a leader with Girlguiding and she also helped teach swimming with the Rhondda Polar Bears and dance with the Janet Denney School of

Dancing. She was also involved with numerous local theatre groups.

Earlier this year, Becca and her mother Leigh had to move from their home in Pentre following flooding caused by Storm Dennis.

“She loved to stay active and was a talented performer whose smile lit up the stage. She was just 28 years old but had made such an impact on so many people. She was very much loved and deeply missed.”

A fundraising page set up for Becca’s family described her as “selfless young lady with a heart of gold”.

“Bex was admitted to hospital with an infection over a month ago. Sadly whilst there she contracted Covid-19. That on top of all other health problems she couldn’t fight any more.

“Everyone who knew her, loved her. She would do anything for anyone. She was passionate about so many things.” A spokesman for Cwm Taf University Health Board said they couldn’t comment on an individual case but said in a statement: “Our heartfelt sympathies and condolences are extended to all families and friends who have lost loved ones and our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time. We have strict infection control procedures in place within our hospitals and our NHS staff are taking every possible measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.”
