It’s now a hospital – but tickets still on sale for stadium concert
CARDIFF’S Principality Stadium is now home to hundreds of hospital beds as the coronavirus crisis continues – but you can still buy tickets for a rock concert due to take place at the venue in less than eight weeks’ time.
Last summer, German metal band Rammstein announced a huge show at the stadium on Sunday, June 14, and thousands of tickets were sold within hours of going on sale.
It’s part of a massive summer stadium tour which is due to take place across Europe and North America.
The band – who have a reputation for dramatic stadium performances containing fire and pyrotechnics – have built up a huge following in the UK after the release of seven studio albums, the last of which reached number three on the UK Albums Chart.
It seems likely, in the current climate, that most if not all of the shows on their touring schedule between the end of May and the end of September will have to be cancelled.
Most other large events in Wales and across the UK and Europe due to take place over the coming weeks have been cancelled, including the European Football Championships, Wimbledon, comedy tours, rock and pop concerts and music festivals.
Rammstein, however, have yet to announce any cancellations.
Posting a message to their thousands of fans across the world via social media, the band said: “We are working on a solution for this difficult situation together with our partners in all the affected countries, and we hope for the understanding of those who have purchased tickets for the coming shows. As soon as we have precise and definitive information, we will communicate this immediately.”
Despite the uncertainty, tickets can still be bought online for some of their stadium shows, including the one in Cardiff. On the band’s official website, all tickets sold through Ticketmaster are sold out.
But, tickets are still available to buy through Eventim, at a cost of between £69.85 and £80.85 each.
Also, tickets are still advertised for the event on the Principality Stadium’s website, which redirects you to tour promoter AEG Presents. From there, tickets for the show can be purchased at prices between £69.85 and £91.85.
The band added on social media that they are asking fans for their “understanding and patience” and that an “update will follow as soon as possible”.
Eventim, one of the companies still selling tickets for the event, said that it cannot issue refunds at present.
Responding to an email query, Eventim said: “As your event is a little while away, we don’t have any information currently on whether or not it will be affected by current closures.
“We will keep all customers informed by email if there are any changes to the status of their event. At present, until a show is officially announced as postponed or cancelled we cannot issue a refund.”
The company’s website does state that fans will be notified by email if the event is cancelled, and that a refund will be processed. If the event is postponed, however, refunds may not be issued but tickets will be valid for the rearranged date.
Eventim has been asked to comment on why tickets are still available for sale.
