Childcare for key workers at schools and nurseries

CHILDREN of key workers in Merthyr Tydfil can access childcare at a number of schools and nurseries across the county borough.

On weekdays, people who work in health and social care, education and childcare, key public services, local and national government, the food industry, public safety and national security, transport or utilities, communicat­ions and financial services can send their children to the dedicated childcare settings in Merthyr while they are working.

On weekends and bank holidays, those who work in health and social care or in public safety and national security can send their children to these locations when they are carrying out their roles amid the coronaviru­s pandemic.

For children of school age in the north of the county borough, Goetre Primary School is accepting key worker children from primary schools including Goetre itself, Pantyscall­og, Dowlais, Gellifaelo­g, St Aloysius, Gwaunfarre­n and Ysgol y Graig.

It’s also accepting key worker children from Pen y Dre and Bishop Hedley high schools.

In the central part of the county borough, Caedraw Primary School is accepting children from primary schools including Caedraw itself, Heolgerrig, Cyfarthfa Park, Ysgol Coed y Dderwen, St Illtyds, St Marys and Twynyrodyn as well as pupils from Cyfarthfa High School.

In the south, Afon Taf High School is accepting its own key worker children as well as those from Troedyrhiw, Abercanaid and Ynysowen primary schools.

Also in the south, Trelewis Primary School is taking on its own children as well as those from Bedlinog and Edwardsvil­le primary schools and Afon Taf High School as well.

For Welsh language key worker children, Ysgol Rhyd y Grug is accepting its own pupils as well as those from Ysgol Santes Tudful and Rhydywaun high school.

Greenfield Special School and Ty Dysgu Homfrey will also be open for key worker families.

For pre-school children, in the north of the county borough the Funatazia Day Nursery at Prince Charles Hospital is open as well as Seren Bach at Gurnos Community Centre.

In the central part of the county borough, Here We Grow at The College Merthyr Tydfil and Cylch Meithrin Twyncarmel at Carmel Chapel in Twyncarmel are open for key worker children.

And in the south, key worker children can go to Trinity Day Nursery, Kidzden at the community centre in Treharris or Llwynog Bychain Beddllwyno­g.
