BEST OF THE REST
CAPTAIN TOM’S WAR ITV, 8pm
HE’S Britain’s newest national treasure. Captain Tom Moore is the war veteran who captured the hearts and became the pride of Britain when he took on an NHS walking challenge for his 100th birthday.
In fact, his garden walking, which raised nearly £33m, actually earned him a Daily Mirror Pride of Britain award and he’s been made an honorary Colonel.
Airing just a week after his centenary, this documentary tells the story of his part of the Second World War.
Tom looks back on his time fighting during the brutal Burma campaign, sharing his memories of the conflict to draw attention to the “forgotten war”.
The Yorkshireman was keen to speak out on the relatively unknown part of the war, which saw a million Allied troops, from 40 nations, attempt to repel the forces of Imperial Japan.
Also featured are Tom’s daughters, Lucy and Hannah, who reveal family photos from their trip back to Burma, shedding light on the life of a true hero.
THE LAST LEG: LOCKED DOWN UNDER Channel 4, 10pm
IT’S back, but not in the way we know it.
Following the socially distanced path of other comedy panel shows, The Last Leg attempts its locked-down, quarantined version.
Declaring a TV first – this sees the three hosts broadcasting live from different locations.
It’s a global affair. Josh Widdicombe is in London, while Alex Brooker is in Huddersfield and Adam Hills is in Melbourne.
As they try to rally their usual satirical banter from their respective homes, will it work? Or will it be like watching three mates having a dodgy Zoom chat? And is that OK?
Of course they have special guests on hand to contribute their thoughts on the highs and lows of isolation.
This week they are joined (virtually) by actress Kathy Burke and comedian Rob Beckett.
And keeping a touch of normality, the audience will be encouraged to get involved using the hashtag #isitok.
In a ‘not OK’ world, there will be plenty to discuss...
