Latest rules for lockdown

-

Effective from Monday, the new rules announced yesterday by First Minister Mark Drakeford show three noteworthy changes from the existing restrictions. Here they are at a glance...

EXERCISE: People will now be permitted to leave their house and exercise more than once a day, though Mr Drakeford insisted such exercise should be local and take a “commonsensical” approach, with people starting and ending their trips from their front door. He said: “It does not mean getting in your car and driving long distances, claiming it is for exercise.”

LIBRARIES & RECYCLING CENTRES: Local authorities will have discretion to begin reopening libraries and household waste recycling centres from next week.

GARDEN CENTRES: Garden centres will be permitted to reopen as long as they can adhere to 2m social distancing.

LEAVING YOUR HOME: You are still only allowed to leave your home for the following very limited purposes:

■ shopping for basic necessities as infrequently as possible;

■ multiple forms of exercise a day – eg a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household. This must start and finish at home and be local to where you live;

■ any medical need; to provide care or to help a vulnerable person;

■ travelling to and from work where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home.

And even when doing them you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are two metres apart from anyone outside of your household.

You should also wash your hands as soon as you get home.

Critical workers can still take their children to school or childcare.

Anyone who has Covid-19 symptoms or is in a household where someone has symptoms should not go to work and should self-isolate.

YOU SHOULD NOT BE DOING THE FOLLOWING...

■ Meeting friends.

■ Meeting family members who do not live in your home.

■ Going shopping except for essentials like food and medicine – and you should do this as little as you can. And use food delivery services where you can.

THESE RULES REMAIN...

■ Most shops selling nonessential goods are closed.

■ All gatherings of more than two people in public are stopped, excluding people you live with.

■ All social events, including weddings, baptisms and other ceremonies, but excluding funerals, are stopped.

■ Parks will remain open for exercise, but gatherings will be dispersed.
