Man arrested after stabbing
A 47-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an alleged stabbing.
Gwent Police were called to the scene of an incident at Llanarth Square in Pontymister near Newport at approximately 5.30pm on Friday, where a local man had received stab wounds to the back, chest and leg.
The man was taken to University Hospital of Wales where he was yesterday in a critical but stable condition.
Following the incident, a 47-yearold man from Risca was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He was yesterday in police custody.
In a statement Rod Grindlay, Chief Inspector at Gwent Police, said: “At 5.30pm on Friday May 8, Gwent Police received a reported of an incident on Llanarth Square, Pontymister.
“A local man suffered stab wounds to the back, chest and leg.
He was taken to University Hospital of Wales and is currently in a critical but stable condition.
“A 47-year-old man from Risca has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody.”
In a separate incident, a woman was arrested after threatening a shopkeeper with a knife.
South Wales Police and armed officers were called to the Katko Mini Market on Bethania Street, Maesteg, at around 10am on Saturday.
Police responded to a report of a female with a knife demanding money from the till.
Fortunately, no-one was injured and nothing was stolen.
A 38-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and yesterday remained in police custody.
A spokesperson from South Wales Police said: “At around 10am, police were called to the Katko Mini Market on Bethania Street to a report of a woman with a knife demanding money from the till.
“No-one was injured and nothing was stolen. A 38-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and she remains in police custody.
“Armed officers attended as a precaution to ensure the safety of officers and the public.”
