Life’s a beach and then you die

-

AMURDER mystery set in sun-drenched Ibiza, with zany characters, drug deals and beautiful people, this squishes together every genre going.

And the Spanish-British thriller has a cast as unexpected as its plot.

You’ve got Guardians of the Galaxy’s Laura Haddock, alongside Line Of Duty’s Daniel Mays, ex-Corrie star Angela Griffin and Lewis actor Laurence Fox, all joined by a roll call of brilliant Spanish actors.

The plot sounds standard enough at first. When Zoe Walker’s DJ brother Axel is found dead, 20 years after going missing in Ibiza, she heads to the island to investigate.

But with flashbacks, comedy gangster clichés, a Death In Paradise-style setting, plus several other plot strands, this is anything but standard fare.

It starts with Zoe (Haddock) talking to camera. “I was just a kid when my brother disappeared off the face of the Earth, but I knew that one day

I’d find out the truth,” she says.

In Almeria, Spain, she’s shown the mummified body of her sibling. She’s got big questions, but the police are unhelpful.

The mood shifts with the arrival of Mays as middle-aged DJ and drug dealer Marcus, singing Moving On Up in his bright orange jeep and even brighter shirt.

In other news, his ex Anna (Griffin) is “having one of her parties”. Cut to her hosting an orgy.

Disjointed and odd at first, this tale of drugs, sex and power begins to weave together.

And just like a page-turner novel, by the end, you’ll have a ton of questions and won’t be able to leave it alone...
