BE GIVEN A WITH CLUB
has over taking to the pitch again in the current climate.
And Harris is sympathetic to those concerns and reiterated that the club are desperate to complete the current campaign, but will seek assurances that it can be done in only the in the safest possible environment.
“Naturally, players, staff, myself included, we all want answers to some difficult questions to make sure it’s a safe environment,” he said.
“From Vincent (Tan) and Ken (Choo) at board level, to me and my staff and all the players, we want to finish the season and get back playing again in the safest possible environment.
“The players have been keen to give me feedback from their perspective. I had a Zoom call with some senior players yesterday to give them an update and also got some feedback from them as well.
“They want to get back playing, but it has to be in the safest possible environment and, ultimately, that is what the Premier League and the English
Football League are trying to achieve.
“They want us back on the training ground to finish the season, but a lot of it is based on testing players.
“It has to be that route, if not then it is really dangerous.”
Should the correct medical guidelines be adhered to and the season does recommence, the one positive of all this, Harris says, is the injured players who have had ample time to rehabilitate.
Lee Tomlin, Nathaniel MendezLaing and Greg Cunningham all looked as though they would be out for the season before the campaign was put on hold, but the picture all of a sudden looks a lot rosier.
Isaac Vassell, too, is back out running and able to kick the ball again, another positive for the manager, although the striker is still some way off.
For the other three, though, it is certainly positive news for Bluebirds supporters.
“If there is anything to gain from this period of uncertainty, it’s that these players are getting fitter, Lee and Nathaniel in particular,” Harris added.
“If the season recommences in the middle of June, whether they are ready for the first game back or to take part in that first game or even be part of the first-team squad. these are players we are able to rely on now for the remainder of the season.
“Greg Cunningham; the plan for him was to get him back in for preseason in July, to return for the following season, but he is in really good shape as well.
“Will we see him before the end of July in competitive action? That’s a long way off for Greg at the moment, but he is really, really doing well.
“It would be good to have an almost fully-fit squad if we are back playing again in June or July.”
