Bluebirds confirm a positive test result

ONE Cardiff City staff member has returned a positive result for coronaviru­s after the latest round of testing, the club have confirmed.

Every Championsh­ip club is being tested twice weekly, for the Bluebirds that is a Monday and a Thursday, to ensure the training environmen­t is as safe as possible.

The club returned to Phase 1 of training last week and had no positive results from its first or second tests, but have now confirmed a member of staff has tested positive from the third round of testing and will now go into self-isolation.

The EFL confirmed 10 positive results from eight different Championsh­ip clubs after 1,058 tests.

Cardiff City state that training went ahead as normal over the weekend in accordance with the strict guidelines the EFL have put in place.

“Following the completion of the third round of testing for Covid-19 this week at the club’s Vale training base, a member of staff has tested positive for coronaviru­s,” Cardiff said in a statement.

“The staff member, who will not be named due to medical confidenti­ality, will now undertake a period of self-isolation in accordance with EFL and government guidelines.

“Training under the principles laid out in phase one of the EFL’s return to training protocol took place as scheduled on Saturday.”

An EFL statement read: “Following the latest round of Covid-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 1,058 players and club staff from the 24 Championsh­ip clubs were tested over the course of Thursday 28 May and Friday 29 May, with 10 individual­s testing positive from eight clubs.

“Those players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities.”
