‘Eddie makes us smile each day, he’s our bundle of joy’

-

A SOUTH Wales pet will be flying the flag for the region in the national finals of our Lockdown Dog Heroes competition.

Eddie the Cavapoo is a cross between a poodle and a Cavalier King Charles spaniel and beat off competition to make his way into the finals.

Owner Kirsty Flynn said she and her partner, Chris, were “over the moon” at hearing Eddie had won the regional round.

Now he goes on to the finals, where he stands the chance to win a year’s supply of Butcher’s food for dogs – and £1,500 towards a dog-friendly break.

It’s said that you can’t beat the loyalty of a four-legged friend, and particularly so during the the coronavirus lockdown.

So, we have been celebrating our own dog heroes on our WalesOnline website.

Kirsty, 33, who works in insurance, said Eddie has been a true friend since he came into her life: “My partner, Chris, surprised me with Eddie. He’s now 16 months old and he has really helped me.

“I was going through a tough time when he arrived, I had lost someone close to me.

“He really couldn’t have come at a better time.

“He’s such a character and he just makes us smile all the time.”

Turning to life over the past three months since lockdown came in, Kirsty said Eddie has been enjoying having a full house at their Pontarddulais home.

She added: “Normally we are both at work – myself and Chris – so Eddie has definitely been enjoying having us home.

“It’s hard sometimes trying to work with him around but he’s always fun and has plenty of love for us every day, which is helping.

“He comes running with me and enjoys it, he’s a real little bundle of joy. Eddie is definitely a lockdown hero.”

Voting for the national winner will start on Friday.
