Welsh Game of Thrones star returns as Merlin

-

A MOVIE about King Arthur and Merlin filmed at Caerphilly Castle and featuring a Welsh Game Of Thrones star is set to be released next month.

Arthur & Merlin: Knights of Camelot was shot at Caerphilly Castle and around the South Wales countryside, and stars Welsh-American actor Richard Brake, best known as he Night King in Game of Thrones.

Filming in Caerphilly was a return to his roots for the actor, who plays Merlin in the movie.

He was born in Ystrad Mynach in 1967, but his family migrated to the US not long after.

The Welshman got his film break playing Joe Chill in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins in 2005, before working in a string of horror and fantasy hits such as Hannibal Rising (2007), Nazi-zombie horror Outpost (2008), Halloween II (2009), Joseph Kahn’s mindbending Detention (2011), Panos

Cosmatos’ hallucinatory Mandy (2018) and 3 From Hell (2019).

Arthur & Merlin: Knights of Camelot is directed by Giles Alderson (A Serial Killer’s Guide to Life, The Dare), and stars Richard Short (Mary Kills People) as Arthur.

A tale of power, betrayal, lust and revenge, it tells the story of a man battling to fulfil his destiny to become king.

Caerphilly Castle, which dates from the 13th century, is no stranger to hosting film shoots.

It has featured in many movies and TV shows including Doctor Who, Knightmare, Galavant, Wolf Hall, Restoration and Gawain and the Green Knight.

Arthur & Merlin: Knights of Camelot, is available for streaming and on DVD on July 13.
