‘Radical change’ planned for Cardiff’s Nextbike services

-

NEXTBIKE and Pedal Power have announced that maintenance operations for Nextbike’s Cardiff scheme will transfer in-house to Nextbike from September.

The move has been mutually agreed by both organisations and is supported by Cardiff council, with Nextbike taking on all employees who want to continue working with the scheme.

Krysia Solheim, Nextbike MD, said it was a critical move for the efficiency of the scheme.

“The expansion of the Cardiff fleet from its original 250 to 1,000 bikes and the imminent roll-out of the first e-bikes in Cardiff has meant a radical change in the way the scheme operates,” she explained.

“Everyone has agreed that, given the needs and size of the system, the best way to move forward is to transfer the operations from Pedal Power to Nextbike by September 1.”

Ms Solheim thanked Pedal Power for playing an instrumental role in the success of the scheme and was delighted that Pedal Power will continue in its core aim of making cycling accessible to all.

Sian Donovan, the charity’s director, said: “In line with the organisation’s key mission, Pedal Power will continue to bring the benefits of cycling to all ages and abilities through our unique provision of experience and equipment and we are proud of our aim to always remove any barriers to cycling.

“Now, more than ever, the significance of cycling in maintaining people’s health is understood and Pedal Power ensures that everyone can share in these benefits.

“Both Nextbike and Pedal Power are proud of what we have accomplished together and our goal is to ensure a smooth transition that does not impact the service.”
