Work to halt village flood woes

-

WORK on repairing a culvert in the Rhondda which has been the main reason for devastating flooding in a village earlier this year could start in the next few months.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Council, has told fellow councillors that a bid for funding for work on the culvert in Pentre had been approved and that once the final designs have been completed work may start in the next seven weeks.

Pentre was one of the hardest hit areas of RCT in the Storm Dennis floods which battered the UK earlier this year, and the village was hit again during flash flooding only last month.

The felling of trees on the mountainside in the Rhondda saw tons of abandoned debris wash into a culvert, blocking the flow of water which led to the floods.

Cllr Morgan said work on a culvert in Bryn Ifor in Mountain Ash is due to start at around the same time as work on the Pentre one.
