Turkish restaurant owners’ cafe plan
THE owners of a popular Turkish restaurant in Cardiff want to turn an empty building into a cafe offering just-roasted speciality coffee and all-day breakfasts.
The owners of Saray Restaurant on City Road have lodged plans with Cardiff council to turn 16C Crwys Road into a cafe serving light food and coffee that has been roasted on-site.
The building, which neighbours a Chinese takeaway and a window cleaning business, was originally built as a Saab car showroom and was later turned into a restaurant and an aquatic shop, but it has since been empty for a number of years.
If given the green light, the ground floor would become a coffee bean roasting and packaging plant and kitchen while the floors above, including the attic space, would be turned into a seating area.
The coffee shop would serve all-day breakfast and sandwiches.
The application requests permission to change the use of the building from A1 retail to A3 restaurants and cafes.
An access and design statement submitted to Cardiff Council reads: “There will be remedial building works carried out such as new shop forms and entrance doors to Crwys Road.”
The application is expected to be considered by the council later this year.
