Black bin rubbish still hasn’t been collected

-

I’VE been on to the council for more than a week to empty my black bin.

It was unusually left behind and not emptied on the last collection date. Not a problem , mistakes happen etc, so I loaded the black bin bags into the car and booked a slot at Bessemer Close refuse centre.

On arriving, my wife was informed that they were not accepting househould waste, and were sent back home with them. So I rang the council and told them the situation and they said someone would be around immediately.

Despite numerous calls and being told that the bin would be collected it is still on the footpath, more than a week later. It is beginning to smell and is a health hazard.

I find it amazing that this is still not sorted out.

Worship resumes at historic church

THE news that the glorious church of St German Cardiff will re-open for services on Sunday will be welcomed by many people.

The mass will be celebrated by the vicar, Father Phelim O’Hare, at 11am, with the opportunity to experience the beauty and holiness of this famous church, designed by the great Victorian architect JF Bodley.

The spacious church has been completely organised to ensure social distancing and hand wash facilities are provided. You will see when you arrive on Sunday that these appropriate measures to ensure safety, are in place.

St German’s community garden is also open daily to be enjoyed by the local people of Adamsdown. The church is on the corner of Star Street, Adamsdown, just minutes from Cardiff Royal Infirmary and there is car parking.

Many elderly have been forgotten

NOT one word has been said regarding the plight of the sick elderly and their elderly carers who have been shielding for the past 16 weeks.

While one appreciates it has been a difficult time for everyone, the main thrust of concern has been for the NHS, care homes and children having to be kept home from school. Many stars have not stopped whingeing about having to look after their children 24/7; perhaps they would care to look after a sick husband or wife in shielding.

Many of us are not well off but the BBC and the Government seem hell bent on not only making us suffer with regards to care but also financially. We no longer have any interest on our savings due to the greedy banks but they are set on reducing our pensions when all the costs are increasing. Our last pension rise did not cover the council tax and utility rises.

The younger generation maximise the use of their credit cards, while most of our generation don’t spend what they haven’t got and go without. We should be able to cut off the use of the BBC and save the cost of the licence. If we have saved for a decent house, many then believe one is rich but this is not so.

Demonstrators are far more concerned with supporting people in America than the elderly in this country.

People on pension credit are able to obtain many things but people above that line have to pay the price for everything.

Much quieter now Chapter is closed

I AM writing in response to Linda Quinn’s despondency about Chapter Arts Centre in Canton not reopening until later in the year despite it having a large open space both in front and at the rear where people could queue or socially distance or set up marquees (“Baffled why Chapter hasn’t reopened yet”, Echo letters, July 22).

Has she thought of the disturbance this would cause to the many residents who live close to Chapter? Probably not. Or does she not care as long as she can have her time out on its premises.

Since Chapter has been closed it has been a different, much more pleasant experience without excessive racket coming from this venue. Noise levels, especially during summer months, from the site itself and many patrons who make a racket when they come out and loiter instead of just going home are a serious annoyance.

Also on numerous occasions selfish patrons of Chapter park illegally in resident’s spaces while they go and visit Chapter.

So the longer Chapter stays closed the better – permanently would be ideal and before Chapterites say move home as you do not have to live where you do if you dislike the excessive disturbance caused by Chapter and its users I say why should I or anyone else have to consider doing this?

The longer Chapter remains closed the better.

Corbyn was useless Opposition leader

RECENT revelations that have identified Russia as a threat to Britain’s security have certainly not come as a real surprise to me nor I imagine to many of your readers.

They may, however, come as a shock to the leadership and their lackeys of the last Labour opposition that this country suffered for far too long. Am I wrong in believing that Jeremy Corbyn even expressed doubts that Russia was behind the atrocities which took place in Salisbury?

Yes, the Government has been guilty of not giving this threat enough credence but to hear the Labour Party hierarchy criticising its failure is astonishing.

Corbyn’s opposition was a complete joke and failed miserably to highlight the last government’s shortcomings in many areas, in particular national security. This country was sorely let down by Corbyn’s clan yet many of them still lurk in the shadows ready to assume new positions of power if given the chance.

I wish Keir Starmer and his colleagues every success in their efforts to form the next government; however, I sincerely hope they will recog
