Pupils spend lockdown recording charity song

-

A GROUP of Whitchurch school children have recorded a charity single about lockdown to raise money.

Eight Ysgol Melin Gruffydd students have written and recorded a song called Out On Our Way to raise money for Latch Wales and Huggard.

The children are all part of the Your Songs School of Music, which works with the school in Whitchurch, Cardiff, to offer music lessons. In the song, the children discuss not being able to go to school or see their friends.

Nick Thomas, director of Your Songs School of Music, said: “I go into schools during after school clubs and give the kids guitar lessons and this group of students are from one of the school.

“Since lockdown I have been able to take all of my lessons online v but I wanted to do something special for the children so they can raise money for charities they care about and have something positive to look back on.

“It’s also been a very confusing time for them and asking them to talk about lockdown and their feelings to help write the lyrics was beneficial for them to process what’s going on.”

Nick also wanted to give the students an opportunity to spend time together virtually.

“We recorded the song through

Zoom, and then I asked the parents to shoot some footage of them dancing and jamming out and having fun,” he said.

Out of Our Way will raise money for Latch Wales and Huggard, which were chosen by the children.
