Fire engine in collision with post at crossing
A FIRE engine was involved in a crash in Cardiff yesterday, following a “medical emergency.”
Lansdowne Road in Canton was closed for several hours following the incident, which happened at about 3pm.
An air ambulance landed at nearby Jubilee Park and was supported by a road ambulance. One person was taken to the University Hospital of Wales for treatment.
The incident occurred at the crossroads with Grosvenor Street and Sanatorium Road, meaning those routes were also blocked.
Traffic in the area was severely disrupted from Broad Street to the Ninian Park area.
Images from the incident show a fire engine next to a pedestrian traffic-light, which appears to have been hit.
There were also five police cars and several police officers and firefighters in attendance.
Several emergency service vehicles were in attendance, including two fire service appliances which were not involved in the incident.
A spokesman for the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed one of its appliances was involved in the incident.
In a statement, they said: “We can confirm a South Wales Fire and Rescue Service appliance has been involved in a single-vehicle road traffic collision on Lansdowne Road, Canton, in Cardiff, this afternoon.
“Updates will be issued when available.”
A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed they assisted in the incident after receiving reports of a “medical emergency.”
“We were called to reports of a medical and road traffic incident in the Canton area of Cardiff at approximately 2.57pm today, Monday, August 3.
“We sent one rapid-response car, one emergency ambulance, our Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service and the Wales Air Ambulance. One patient was taken to University Hospital of Wales for further treatment.”
Officers from South Wales Police attended the incident, but a spokesman was unable to provide further information.
