Groups could win up to £100,000 in charity competition

-

THREE groups are in the running to win up to £100,000 each as part of a national housebuilder’s charity competition.

Touch Trust, Helping Hand RCT and Rhondda Netball Foundation have all made it through to the final of the competition being run by Persimmon Homes.

The three organisations have been shortlisted by Persimmon Homes East Wales as part of the national Building Futures scheme which will give away £1m this year to a range of projects that help those aged under eighteen.

The Welsh finalists have been selected from three categories targeting grassroots sports groups, health organisations and arts and education projects.

Touch Trust, which is in the running for the prize money in the arts and education category, offers unique and creative movementbased arts programmes for children with profound disabilities and complex needs and is based in Cardiff.

The Rhondda Netball Foundation was chosen for the sport category because of its work to inspire young female leaders to make a positive difference in young people’s lives, while Helping Hand RCT will represent the health category after impressing judges with its courses to help young people cope with anxiety.

Martin Smith, managing director of Persimmon Homes East Wales, said: “Building Futures aims to create a lasting legacy for young people and the groups that support them. We have been overwhelmed by the response and it is clear there are a lot of very worthy causes supporting the younger generation and a many local people working exceptionally hard to help them.

“We wish all three of our regional finalists the very best of luck and would urge people to show their support by voting for them at www. persimmonhomes.com/buildingfutures.”

More money is up for grabs from the Building Futures competition, which is being delivered through the Persimmon Charitable Foundation, as organisations are also in the running to get their hands on the £50,000 second prize and £20,000 third prize in each sector. All remaining 87 shortlisted projects will each receive £5,000 too.

The top prize for each category will be decided by a public vote which runs until midnight on September 18. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner at York Racecourse on Tuesday, October 6.
