Gavin and Stacey star on show’s return

-

GAVIN and Stacey star Larry Lamb has addressed the potential return of the popular BBC comedy.

The veteran actor, who plays Michael Shipman in the show, was appearing on Good Morning Britain yesterday to discuss the new Action for Children campaign which will see the 72-year-old boycott his bed to help raise funds for children in poverty.

But hosts Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins couldn’t resist asking their guest about the popular show that attracted 17 million viewers in last year’s Christmas special.

Talking about the frustrating ending which saw Nessa propose to Smithy in the final scene, Larry said: “It was an amazing bit of writing. So no surprise that it had the effect on everybody that it did and of course now, the thing is that you’re just hanging, right?”

“We are,” Charlotte said. “So come on then tell us, are we going to see a follow-up?”

“You need to speak to James and Ruth,” Larry replied.

Eager to push him for more Sean Fletcher said: “You know don’t you, you’re keeping it a secret.”

“The one thing I can promise you is there is no secret to keep,” Larry said. “The one problem is that it’s got to be written and that’s not an overnight thing.

Charlotte Hawkins continued to push him on the subject: “But surely where there’s a will there’s a way. I mean, when 17 million people watch something that’s pretty special, isn’t it?”

“You would think so, wouldn’t you? Yeah,” said Larry as he smiled to camera.
