Tributes paid to teenager found dead at home

TRIBUTES have been paid to a teenager whose death is being investigat­ed by police after he died at his home on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old boy, named locally as Leo Rees, died at his home in Clydach, Tonypandy, at around 6.20pm.

Paramedics were called after receiving a report of a person needing urgent medical attention.

Police are investigat­ing Leo’s death, which they are treating as unexplaine­d.

South Wales Police said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstan­ces.

A spokesman said: “At around 6.20pm on Tuesday, August 11, South Wales Police officers were called to an address in Clydach, Tonypandy, following the report of a sudden death.

“The body of a 17-year-old boy was discovered at his home address. Officers are treating the death as unexplaine­d at this time, although there appear to be no suspicious circumstan­ces. Next of kin have been informed.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called on Tuesday, August 11, at approximat­ely 6.16pm to reports of a person needing urgent medical attention in a residentia­l area of Tonypandy.

“We responded with one rapidrespo­nse vehicle and two emergency ambulances.”

Writing on Facebook, one friend wrote: “Absolutely gutted. RIP Leo Rees, lovely boy gone too early. Condolence­s to all his family.”

Another person wrote: “Very sad news, I was only chatting to the young man Sunday. Absolutely horrendous.

“Thinking of the family and all his friends at this sad time. RIP Leo mate.”

One tribute read: “Rest in peace my brother, you will be missed.”

Another person said: “I understand that everyone has been affected by what’s happened and it’s caused so much anger for each and everyone of us. It’s truly broken so many hearts.

“Coming together to support one another is one thing most of us are pretty good at, so as a community we now need to give our time and respect to the families involved. RIP Leo.”
