COMBAT WOMBAT (U) ★★★★★

IN THIS computer-animated fantasy, building site fore-wombat Maggie Diggins (voiced by Deborah Mailman) and husband Bradley (George Pullar) are involved in the construction of New Sanctuary Stadium for the benefit of four-legged friends.

A series of tremors causes tunnels to collapse – Maggie escapes but Bradley perishes saving his wife. Suffocated by grief, Maggie turns her back on the job and the outside world. One lonely night, she heads to a local supermarket to stock up on snacks. While there, Maggie saves store worker Sweetie (Ed Oxenbould) from a rampaging customer. This act of daring gives birth to Maggie’s superhero alter ego, Combat Wombat.

THE DEVIL HAS A NAME (15) ★★★★★

FRED STERN (David Strathairn) is a farm owner in California’s Central Valley, where more than half of America’s fruits, nuts and veg are grown.

When evidence of environmental pollution emerges, the finger of suspicion points to Houston-based Royal Shore Oil run by CEO Big Boss (Alfred Molina). The California office is managed by Gigi Cutler (Kate Bosworth) and she tries to buy off Fred. However, he refuses the settlement and hires lawyer Ralph Wegis (Martin Sheen) to publicly shame Royal Shore Oil.

Inspired by real-life cases of unlined wastewater ponds in California, The Devil Has A Name is an uneven courtroom drama.
