Months later and stolen car is still on mountainside

A STOLEN car that was abandoned on a mountainside is still there over six months later.

On March 29, the smashed-up remains of the family car were discovered by a passer-by on his morning run off the A4061 Bwlch-y-Clawdd Road, Treorchy.

Images captured at the time show the car with massive damage to its engine block and most of the front of the vehicle missing.

The person who found the car, Carl Rees, said it was “impacted all round” and the bumpers and other bits of debris were discovered up to 60 yards away.

It was left lying precariously in a deep ditch on the side of Bwlch Mountain

and hasn’t moved an inch since then.

Police confirmed that the vehicle was reported stolen.

A statement released at the time said: “We were made aware of a car down off the A4107 Bwlch-y-Clawdd Road at about 5.40pm on March 29.

“A search was made of the area to trace any driver, but no-one was located.

“The car was confirmed as having been stolen from the Cwmavon area on March 23.”

People are now beginning to wonder what is happening with the car and whether it will ever be removed.

Images were posted on social media this week, with people speculating about how long it had been there and why it had not been removed.

Katie Davies, a farmer who owns part of Bwlch Mountain, confirmed the car had crashed on her land but “bounced” on to an adjoining farm.

“It crashed on our side and then bounced and rolled on to the other side, where it’s been for a few months.”

She added: “We would like to get it moved because it’s a terrible eyesore. There was talk of the Army coming to retrieve it as part of a training exercise a couple of months ago, but we’ve heard nothing more about that.

“The owners should come and get it removed in my opinion.”

Katie added that it was another “terrible responsibility throw at local farmers”, who she said were also dealing with an increase in fly-tipping.
