WEBCHAT Wales publishes the evidence for why whole country went into lockdown

- Marie Culle

Before anyone starts up, it’s not about killing or eradicating the virus, but more about breaking the transmission so that our NHS isn’t overwhelmed. We haven’t got the luxury of pulling staff from other fields this time due to maintaining essential services. Jamie Branagan

17 days is a long time for businesses that have only just got back on their feet (some won’t survive this)... I’m not convinced that this lockdown won’t be extended.

If you take the number of deaths with Covid as cause, take away those with underlying issues who would have passed anyway, take away those who were only tested as a result of another issue after they were admitted as routine, you will see the figures are not as bad as they are making out. Listened to BBC this morning who explained this perfectly. The death rate is only slightly higher than normal.

The problem with the scientific ‘evidence’ is it is very one-sided on what it focus on. It obsesses with stopping the virus spreading and not how to manage the virus in the long term. Nothing has been done to model the cost of lockdowns – both socially and fiscally – with the value of any lives saved. Sage is also an echo chamber where the minutes show information is passing through without being questioned and the questioning is coming from the scientific community weeks to months later when things are finally published.

It simply will not work, within weeks of finishing this lockdown they will need to do another, then another and it will go on and on and on. Businesses cannot afford this, Drakeford cannot afford this, decades of harm, misery and pain to pay for these lockdowns awaits us. This might save a few lives now, but many more are going to die from other illnesses and lack of treatment.

Wales lockdown means we get help. Three tiers means lockdown with no help. Back-door lockdown, typical of Tory.
