What’s the team news?

Cardiff City will be without left back Greg Cunningham, who will be missing for “a few weeks” owing to a hamstring strain.

The defender hobbled off against Preston last weekend and Neil Harris’ fears were realised.

Elsewhere in defence, Jordi Osei-Tutu and Joe Bennett (both hamstring), will also be assessed before the game to see if they are ready.

It could mean Leandro Bacuna will be utilised in one of the wing-back berths again, or even Championship debuts for loan signing Filip Benkovic or academy product Joel Bagan.

Lee Tomlin will return from his red card suspension to force his way into contention ahead of facing his former club.

For the Cherries, Josh King and Wales international David Brooks returned to the training ground this week, with manager Jason Tindall stating they would be assessed before the match.

What have the managers said? Cardiff City manager Neil Harris: “We know Bournemouth’s ability, you’ve just got to look at their squad on paper. The quality of player they’ve got throughout the team. They’ve had a good start to the season. We know the level of test in front of us, but that’s why we play the game.

“We’ve got a lot to prove in the game. We’ve got momentum from the weekend, where we had a fine performance, following up an excellent point at Blackburn a couple of weeks before.

“So we’ve had a really good spell and a really good transfer window. Our point to prove is that we need to get the ball rolling at the Cardiff City Stadium as I think quite a lot of teams do in the UK at the moment, with the amount of away wins.” Bournemouth manager Jason Tindall: “I know Neil very well and I’m delighted he’s got off to a good start. Since he’s been at Cardiff he’s done a really impressive job.

“He’s continued the great work he did at Millwall and took it to Cardiff.

“I was really impressed with Harry Wilson [on loan at Bournemouth last season], he scored some really good goals for us. Just as a lad, as a character, wants to develop every day and is a great professional, great to have around. He had a great loan spell at Derby, scored a number of goals and had a really successful time there. It’s a really good signing for Cardiff and someone who will score goals for them.

“He is someone who can get himself in dangerous positions and someone we have certainly got to be aware of.”

Who’s the referee?

Simon Hooper takes charge. The Wiltshire official was in the middle for two Bluebirds’ draws last season against Reading and Brentford.
