Brewer to keep eight pubs closed following firebreak

-

BRAINS has announced eight of its Welsh pubs will not be reopening immediately after the firebreak lockdown ends.

Four pubs in Cardiff, together with others in Swansea and Llanelli, will remain closed until a new tenant is found. Staff will be redeployed elsewhere.

The Cardiff Brains pubs that will not reopen on Monday include city centre pubs the Goat Major and Barocco, while Salt in Cardiff Bay and the Blackweir Tavern on North Road will also remain closed.

Elsewhere, the other four pubs are the Black Horse Inn in Pontarddulais, Cockett Inn in Cockett, The Three Sisters in Cwmbwrla and the Joiners Arms in Llwynhendy.

A spokeswoman for Brains Brewery said: “Through these uncertain times, we have had to make some very difficult decisions to ensure that Brains continues to have a strong future in Wales.

“As the hospitality industry has been massively affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, we are now considering a number of business options to minimise the impact on our staff and ultimately our customers.

“It is with much regret that we can confirm that not all of our pubs will be opening on Monday, November 9 as previously planned.

“However, as a short-term measure, we will be looking at redeploying our people where appropriate and where practicable moving some managed pubs across to our tenanted estate.

“The team here at Brains have worked tirelessly through the last few months to ensure both staff and customers have remained safe.

“We will continue to do so when we open the majority of our estate next week.”

Founded in 1882, Brains operates more than 160 pubs throughout Wales.
