Have your say on council’s plans for 400 new homes in Grangetown
CARDIFF Council wants to hear from residents on the Channel View estate – as well as people from the wider community – about plans which would deliver around 400 new homes.
Plans for the site include older people’s accommodation.
Community consultation is underway inviting residents who live nearby, people who work in the ward, local businesses and organisations to comment on plans to regenerate the area of Grangetown.
The redevelopment of the estate will deliver a mixture of highquality, affordable homes and privately-owned homes for the existing community as well as better connectivity for people living in the area to public transport, local facilities, public spaces and other parts of the city.
The regeneration proposals contribute to Cardiff’s Council’s target of delivering 2,000 muchneeded new council homes for the city. A master plan showing how the estate could be redeveloped has been produced, as well as the detail for the proposed first phase of redevelopment which focuses on the replacement of the existing high-rise tower block.
Due to the impact of the national pandemic, the council is unable to hold face-to-face public engagement events. Therefore an online consultation process is underway throughout November.
Cabinet member for housing and communities Councillor Lynda Thorne said: “Channel View is a strong and vibrant community within Grangetown but there are a number of issues with the condition of the current estate, so we are keen to progress this exciting regeneration that will bring benefits for the whole area.
“We are committed to involving local people throughout the design and development process of this exciting scheme and want to encourage residents, businesses and anyone with an interest in this area to tell us their views.”

The consultation is open until Friday, November 27.
